Popular Line Spacing

Choose a metric spacing, try a ruled-paper preset, or enter a custom value. Spacing is the distance between adjacent horizontal lines; wider spacing gives you more writing room, while closer spacing usually fits more lines on a page.

What Is Lined Paper?

Lined paper, also called ruled paper, uses evenly spaced horizontal lines to help keep handwriting aligned. It provides a simple guide for notes, lists, drafts, and everyday writing.

MeowPaper creates blank writing paper without prefilled text, handwriting examples, or tracing letters. You can print the same settings again whenever you need another sheet.

The generator draws horizontal rules across the usable page width. It does not add a separate vertical margin line.

What Is Lined Paper Used For?

Use printable lined paper for class notes, journal entries, handwritten letters, spelling practice, planning, and rough drafts.

For compact notes, you may prefer closer lines. For larger handwriting or exercises that need more room, try wider spacing and print a sample sheet before making more copies.

If your assignment specifies a particular spacing or paper size, follow those requirements rather than choosing a format based only on its name.

How Should I Choose Line Spacing?

The generator offers 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, and 15mm spacing, along with College Ruled, Wide Ruled, Narrow Ruled, and a custom option. The default spacing is 10mm.

For the ruled presets in this tool, College Ruled uses 9/32 inch, approximately 7.14mm; Wide Ruled uses 11/32 inch, approximately 8.73mm; and Narrow Ruled uses 1/4 inch, or 6.35mm.

These preset names select the horizontal line spacing. They do not add a notebook-style vertical margin line or other page decorations.

Custom spacing lets you enter a positive value in millimetres, centimetres, or inches. Check the preview after changing it, especially when using a small page or large margins.

Choose Your Paper Size

Choose A4, A5, B5, Letter, Legal, or a custom page size, with portrait or landscape orientation. The default page is A4 portrait with 10mm margins on all four sides.

Use A4 or Letter to match the paper loaded in your printer. If you choose a custom size, confirm that your printer supports it before printing.

Margins define the available writing area. Horizontal rules span the width between the left and right margins, and the set of lines is centred vertically within the top and bottom margins. Remaining space can make the visible top and bottom blank areas larger than the margins you entered.

Lined Paper, Handwriting Paper, or Graph Paper?

Lined paper provides repeated horizontal rules for general writing and notes.

Handwriting paper adds a top guide, a dashed middle guide, and a baseline in each writing group. It can be useful when your exercise calls for letter-height references.

Graph paper provides horizontal and vertical grid lines, while dot grid paper uses separate guide points. Choose the layout that fits the task, or follow the format required by your teacher or project.

How to Print Lined Paper

First, select a spacing preset or enter your own line spacing.

Choose the paper size and orientation, then set the margins.

Check the preview and download the PDF, or use the Print button.

In the print dialog, select matching paper and use Actual Size or 100% scale.

Turn off Fit to Page or similar automatic scaling options to preserve the selected spacing. If size matters, print one sheet and measure the distance between adjacent rules before printing more copies.

Preview zoom changes only the on-screen view; it does not change the dimensions in the PDF.

Lined Paper FAQ

Yes. Both A4 and Letter are supported, along with A5, B5, Legal, and custom sizes. Choose the size that matches the paper in your printer.

What line spacing does the generator use by default?

The default spacing is 10mm on an A4 portrait page with 10mm margins on all four sides. You can change each setting before downloading.

What is the difference between College Ruled, Wide Ruled, and Narrow Ruled?

In this tool, College Ruled uses 9/32-inch spacing, Wide Ruled uses 11/32-inch spacing, and Narrow Ruled uses 1/4-inch spacing. These presets change the horizontal spacing without adding a vertical margin line.

Can I enter custom line spacing?

Yes. Choose Custom and enter a positive spacing value in millimetres, centimetres, or inches. Check the preview to confirm that the spacing works with your page size and margins.

Can I adjust each margin separately?

Yes. Turn off Link all margins to set the top, right, bottom, and left margins independently. Check the preview after making changes.

Can I add a vertical margin line or tracing text?

The generator creates blank horizontal rules. It does not provide a separate vertical margin line, prefilled text, or tracing-letter controls.

Why does the printed line spacing look different from my settings?

Automatic print scaling can change the spacing. Use paper that matches the PDF size, select Actual Size or 100%, and turn off Fit to Page. Screen preview zoom does not affect PDF or print dimensions.
